Default Car didn't come with a keyless remote

I'm buying a remote off Ebay and I just need to know how to program it to work. I know with some cars you have to have a working remote to program another one. I don't have one at all so I hope that's not the case. Anyways how do I go about programming a remote on my 01 V6?

Do you have the factory key? You can program your new remote just by flicking the key on-off-on in some particuar sequence that I can't remember right now, and then you can program the remote.

I have a key to the car of course. I don't belive it's the one that came with the car but it does work. I'm guessing whoever owed the car before me lost all their keys at some point b/c all that came with the car was a copy of the original chip key.

I had to get a new remote for my car and I just went down to the dealer and asked them how to do it and 1 of the guys walked out & did it for me...no cost. So you can try askin if they will do it for you and if not just ask them how. But greystang is right...you turn the key on & off several times, guess I shoulda paid more attention!

Get in the car and close the door, turn the ignition on and off 8 times but on the 8th one leave the ignition on. The doors will lock and unlock. Then press a button on the remote you want to program, the doors will lock and unlock again. When you're done programming all the key fobs turn the ignition off and the locks will cycle once again and then you're done.
