I have been hearing a popping noise when I turn into the parking spot in front of my apartment. I hear it if I turn in from the left or the right, so the problem isn't located on just one side. I took it to the dealership where I purchased it and they said it was the chrome wheel covers on my wheels that made the noise. They claimed that they took the covers off and the noise went away. I haven't had a chance to test this myself yet.

Seeing as how that really doesn't make any sense (I'm not a serious tech guy but common sense tells me that it isbull****), I am going to take it to the Ford dealership here. Any ideas on what it could be. I know Ford thinks it could be something in the steering column, they have looked before and couldn't find any issues w/ the suspension components. I'm about to install some black AZA Z1's on my 02 GT and nothing is worse than pulling in, looking nice, and hearing some f'd up sound, kinda just ruins the day.

Sounds like someone already put some time into diagnoising your problem.

Why don't you take those covers off and try it yourself.

If your problem persists without the covers. Report back. I'm sure many on the board would be happy to help.

+1 Also a good way to find sounds like that is to have someone look to see where the noise is coming from while you pull into a spot or vice versa.

i say it could be your ball joints or your struts, have them checked out

yea ball joints would be my guess too, just had the same thing on mine

i had that problem and it turned out being the rack and pinion steering. they replaced it and it was fine and has been since...but they did get me for 600 bucks.

count me inn for the ball joints too. it's not a definite though, but it would be my first troubleshot. refer to my post in the other thread about popping noise and ball joints, andhow dangerous they are to drive with i posted today.

yea the guy at ford said they were dangerous to drive with too. and i did it for a few months. it was an annoying sound everytime i turned a corner at a slow speed. like under 20mph. it was annoying.

Ouch man you don't wanna ride on a bad ball joint or joints. breaking a tie rod end or ball joint on the road isn't fun.
