my daughter has a 2000 mustang 3.8 that won't shift from park. it has been suggested that the brake light switch needs replaced.

This may be a retarded question, retardedgolf, but is she pushing on the brake pedal/pushing in the shifter **** when shes trying to move it?

If the brake lights work when the pedal is pushed. It's probably not the problem.

Is it parked on a hill and loading up the park pawl or is it not unlocking because of the saftey solenoid? Some cars you can hear the solenoid as you push the brake pedal.

i had a 94 f250 along time ago it did the same thing. lo and behold it was a fuse. worth a check

Thanks for the reply, it turns out that it was the brake light switch. We replaced it and now everything works as it is suppose to.
