DIY gears
I'm pretty good a working on my mustang and I'm just wondering if you guys think it will be too much of a task for me to do my own rear end gears. So far, I've taken apart my engine to do my cam as well as a few other things to my car. I'm just tired of waiting for my friend to do my gears for me and my way of thinking is, there had to have been a first time for everyone that does gears now.. and if I take things real slow, and read everything I find, I think i can do my own gears. What do all of u think?

RE: DIY gears
You may be able to DIY but I wouldn't recommend it. If it's not shimmed just right you'll end up with it being to loose resulting in a clunk when you put it in gear or it will whine while driving cause the gears are too close. Both of those situations are bad and will cause excessive wear.
You have to apply a thin coat of white grease to the gears (ring & pinioon) after they are assembled. Turn the pinion shaft and observe the pattern the teeth make in the grease. If it doesn't match the pic's (hopefully it will have that included) exactly, you will be either loose or tight.
