1996 Mustang with enhanced DTC
Hello from South Carolina. I just bought a 1996 3.8 v-6 Mustang. The truth being I knew I was going to have to work on it after I bought it and and drove it home. OK when I bought the car it was skipping pretty rough. When I got home with the car I hooked up my auto scanner and it gave me 2 codes, One of them with know surprise was a misfire at cylinder 2. So I start putting in new plugs and wires. The wires in my opinion were the original wires and possibly original plugs. The reason I say this, the wires still had 1996 and the cylinder numbers on them. WOW!!!! After changing the wires and plugs the number 2 cylinder was still misfiring. I pulled the number 2 wire from the coil pack and had nothing. I went and bought a new coil and it runs like it was 1996 again. Now this other code that I mentioned earlier is a P1443 EVAP CNTRL SYSTEM CNTRL VALVE MALFUNCTION. It also says enhanced. Would someone please tell what this code means and how and where to fix it. Thanks for your time.

Welcome to the forum ChipB! And, let me congratulate you on your 'new' Mustang.
Since seems that your P0302 code is gone- I will skip to the P1443 code. I'm not sure that the enhanced word means but it is pointing towards a problem with the Evaporative Emissions System. A few things to check would be the lines running from the fuel tank to your vapor canister, and the canister itself. Also, it could be a problem with the purge solenoid (wires or physically sticking). I forget where it's located on the SN95, but you should be able to hear it clicking with the key at the 'on' position.
