Default Breather



<FONT face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size=2>What does a breather actually do, is it used for something or is it to show off. Can someone tell me the pros and cons for this if there are any.</FONT></P>

well i have one because i have different valvecovers and it doesnt have the pipe from it to the throttle body, to be honest i dont know why you have to have one but my motor guy told me i should.

the breathers or to let out the heat in an engine, engine produces heat=heat causes frictions, the breathers let the heat escape or disapate faster their fore less friction, as far as i know, they don't do alot, more like an accessory, but i guess if u have a high power engine and run it in drags or races, be a good idea.</P>

there not to let out heat...they are to let out pressure....if you didn't have a breather or a pcv valve, the blow-by from the rings will build up pressure in your crankcase causing you to blow out all the seals and gaskets</P>

It also promotes piston ring sealing by letting those built up pressures out.I dont know where you got that info on the heat but it is wrong.

gm..I don't use a pcv or breather in my s/c I just leave the tube hole open that would go to the T/B ..works great..

Thats still a form of a breather.Anything that lets or draws that air out of the crank case will work.i run one filter breather on the drivers side,and another breather cap going to the carb.It works really nice.As long as its vented and not capped off you are ok.
