but if i fix the limited slip part of it will it be less safe if one of my tires loses traction?

well, it is the "limited slip" part of it. it is also used as a safety feature. if one wheel breaks loose (ice, etc) it puts all of the rpms to the slipping wheel so the non-slipping wheel doesnt drive the car towards the slipping wheel. so when u break a wheel loose, it stops the other one.

Thats called an open gear.

The limited slip allows the clutches to slip in the posi unit around corners so it doesn't turn like a semi trailer.

No, it won't be less safe. Just go get your **** fixed.

I think the term "posi" is more of a General Motors thing, right? But means the same thing as limited slip or traction lock

On dry pavement you should be fine. But once you fix your diff problems, watch out the first time driving in the rain or in snow if you do that. The car will want to swap ends if you apply too much gas going around corners [:@]

can you rebuild the trak-loc with out taking the gears out and axle in the car? don't wanna mess with the gear mesh...
