Change oil and fuel. New oil and fuel filters also. Replace distributor cap and install new points & plugs. Be sure battery is strong. Disconnect the coil wire so the engine will not start. Turn ignition key on and off a few times. This will pump up oil into your engine without worrying about starting a "dry" engine. Turn over a few more times for good measure. Reconnect the coil wire and start engine normally. After sitting for so long there may literally be no oil whatsoever left in the upper areas of the block and heads. That is why you must first turn your engine over with the coil wire disconnected. Good luck!

ORIGINAL: 86gt5.0HO

That american hotrod crazyhorse stang was totally set-up. A car that has sat in a barn for that long will never start right up. When they showed it on the truck the rotors were nice and shiney. A car that had sat that long would not have shiney rotors.

It doesnt really matter how long its been sitting it doent nessasarily mean the rotors are going to rust all depends on the climate its in.I do agree that could be a setup but why would they drag it out then try to start it?I have a car thats been sitting for 6 years and the rotors are still shiny and its outside

Thanks for the tips guys, and i did throw some extra oil in the cylinders/valve covers. She runs like a charm. Only thing is it wont run without a battery...is this normal? Like ill have it running and ill pull the ground on the bat and it will die, its like it needs to have a completed circuit to run. Maybe this is normal i dunno.

Thanks,
Ryan

I always thought the alternator generated enough juice to keep it running, my alt should be in awesome shape as i remember i had it rebuilt.
