Default please help. keys locked in car, battery dead!

i have a '00 mustang 3.8L and i made the mistake of letting a friend borrow it. he wasted no time at all locking the only key in the car... in the ignition... in the on position!

now the battery is dead, so hitting the unlock button won't do any good. can someone tell me if the door will unlock if i can hook the door handle and pull it? or if anyone has a better idea.....

If you don't know how to slip one of those thin bars into the door to unlock it, now probably isn't the time to learn.

Police officers often know the trick and have the metal bars to do it. You could also call a locksmith. He'd probably know how to jimmy the lock.

If you're feeling adventurous, check out these videos: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_lis...tang+door+lock

thanks for the quick reply. i will check out the videos you mentioned. but i still would like to know: with the door locked, if you pull the door handle (inside), does it unlock? i know some cars would do that but strangely enough i have know idea if my mustang works that way.

I have a 99 and yes they unlock from the inside. The easiest way to get into a Mustang is to pull the door handle up a little bit so you can see a small square hole under it. Cut a metal coat hanger about 10" long and curl one end.

Put the curled end into the door through the square hole. Feel around until you hook the rod for the door lock. When you have it hooked, pull on the coat hanger and push up.

It is a little easier if you wrap hockey tape, sticky side out, on the curled end.

Hope this helps. If it doesnt, call a professional.

Just get your car unlocked by a professional auto service company, or maybe even tow truck operators could do it for you after you've proven to them it is YOUR car

Tell them to bill you for the work & give the bill to your idiot friend. Why dick around trying to unlock the car yourself & maybe risk scratching paint or damaging the lock mechanism?

Lesson learned, always have a spare key. I don't know if you could also try pulling the outer belt strip off and having access down the door that way or not. That way at least you won't scratch you glass with the hanger.
