Default Clunking noise? 02 GT Manual

2002 Mustang GT 5 speed manual. My brothers car, just bought it about 2 months ago, it had 27000 miles on it when he bought it, has about 30,000 miles on it now.
recently we have noticed a clunking noise from the trans? rear end? drive shaft?
when shifting in low gears 1 and 2 when letting off the clutch and pushing on the gas it clunks. also does it when in 2nd gear at a slow cruise then let off the gas a little if traffic slows then push the gas when traffic speeds up a bit (all in 2nd gear) when the gas is push it clunks....clunk, clunk, clunk......any ideas? checked the u-joint seems to be ok. He doesn't want to take it to a shop unless he absolutely has to. cant feel it in the pedals or shifter, can just hear it.

thanks

I have a similar problem but only hear it when I cruise in 1st or 2nd with my foot off the gas and the rps at 800. Some of my buddies were saying it may be the drive shaft not being balanced. I don't really know. Let me know what you find out and I will do the same.

this is from another forum. I believe this is the problem with my brothers...

"After reading several threads on this board as well as others. It is apparent that the Tremec 3650 Transmission has a known flaw. You can call it 1-2nd grind/clunk, cold gear clash, bent shift forks, whatever it is, it seems that Ford Dealers are told to tell you that "It's Normal""

He took it into a ford dealer over the weekend to have it checked out. Anyone know any info on this problem. He's probably screwed as the car is out of warranty. Transmission Technologies Copr. made those transmissions hopefully they fixed something so it won't happen again after its fixed.

Anyone know if there are any TSB or recalls on this?

Shop said if I changed out my motor mounts, it would fix the clunk in second gear and now it clanks in 2nd gear near the drivers side. I have a T45 tranny so would that have the 2nd gear flaw?
