Default Rear Spoiler - Functional?

I recently purchased an '02 Stang - V6 Deluxe and am wondering if the rear spoiler is funtional or just eye candy. If it isn't, I'd like to remove it to improve visibility and aero. Thanks.

The wing is mostly just for looks, but the small lip on the top is designed to be somewhat funtional.

Thanks PNYXPRESS. My day to day commute is all back roads 50 mph max. I suppose I could remove it but throw it back on if I take a long road trip.

For a daily driver it is purely cosmetic. Its designed to be functional at speeds of 100+ mph, even then there are better wings out there for that.

On a daily driver, might as well ditch it. Plus I like that clean look.

ya, watch out for holes in the trunk. but as far as functional what was posted before is correct. the spoiler will have no positive effects for you. They are put on the card for looks.
I agree with you also, looks better without.

I had thought about some black rubber grommets (is that the right term?) like they have on the inside of the trunk where the screws attach. If I could find or make some kind of plastic or metal buttons, I've got a friend Bruce who could spray them the exact color. I'll have to measue to see if the grommets on the inside cover the same size holes as on the outside. If so I'll just go to my local Ford dealer. That'd be easy but it usually doesn't turn out that way. It shouldn't be too hard in any case. Bruce should have some ideas for me as well. During his 30 years in the body shop industry, he must have seen something like this before.

Thanks again everybody. I'll let you know what Bruce says and if the grommets are the right size.
