Default Odd noise... Alternator?

My car makes a funny sound any time elecricity seems to be in hgiher demand. For instance, when I turn on the blinker, there's a whirring noise that increases when the lioght is on and decreases when it's off. The same occurs with the brakes, etc. Is it the alternator and do I need to replace or can I change brushes?

Thanks
Mike

Have you checked your grounds especially the battery cable ground side. Make sure it is clean and tight on both ends, Other than a bad ground, excessive alternator whine under load may indicate a bad alternator. I see that your car is 1996, and if the alternator has not been replaced yet, it might be time. Sorry I cannot be of more assistance, but good luck!
