Default help starter wire is smoking and burning up!

guys i need ur help asap!

i just brought home my 89 gt and the battery was dead after sitting for 3 years, i changed the battery and the solonoid (on the side of the fender) the thin green wire began to start smoking and melted into 2 peices, i figured it was a ground issuse, i took the ground off the block then sanded it down and re-connect the broken wire together and soldered a new peice in, go to hook up the battery and still same! im going to get a new solenoid right now cause its only 10 bucks but im really not sure what the problem is!

All I can think of is either your wires are loose, crossed or touching. Make sure none of that is happening.
