Default 428 cobra jet purchase

I really need some help here. I have a friend who is selling his 428 cj motor. He said he would sell it to me for 2G. It is complete except that it needs a new intake manifold and carb. He was honest and said that it smoked a little when he removed it from the truck it was in. My question is, is it worth the money he is asking and where or what are the numbers I should be looking for on the block? Thanks in advance.

Putting it in a mustang was the idea, however I am not sure if I would really want to tackle this. I need to find the right car for this and I really like the 67 or 68. I have heard horror stories about the modifications involved in doing this. This is going to be a lengthy project...a midlife crisis project. I realize it will take some time. You said putting it in a stang might not work...could you elaborate?

2K is not a bad deal assuming that it is rebuildable. I have seen CJ motors going for $5-$6K rebuilt, manufold and carb will run you another $700-$1,000 depending! If you can bag it for $1,500 you have done great! $2K is still not that bad!

Application 64 1/2 -66 Impossible! (unless you are ready for heavy modifications and serious $$$$$$)
67 - 68 Can just fit it in but if you are running headers you will need to bang up the shock towers and the headers
69 -73 Fits much better in these cars

Any help on how difficult it is to put this engine in a 67 or 68 coupe? I know I'm probably going to have to buy a heavier front end but what else?

The engine itself is not an issue! it will fit! but getting to your spark plugs and putting on headers etc is difficult, you may need to make some custom tools as I did to get at bolts on, off and tighten etc! If using stock exhaust manifolds that will make life much easier for you.

P.S Not sure what you meant by "going to have to buy a heavier front end"? But you will have a heavy front end for sure! Heavy duty shocks, springs, and big block motor mounts up front should do the trick!
