Short block dilemma...
Hey everyone, I recently got a 302 short block that I got machined and bored over .30. Ive been looking for a 331 stroker kit but all the ones ive found are too expensive. Lowest price I founnd was $1200. But I found a 347 stroker kit for $800, I heard all about the 347 being natorious for burning oil, I have the money to get the kit now but I wanna know your opinion, should I just wait to get the 331 or just go for the 347? I want it sooo bad.
Heres the link for the 347: http://coasthigh.com/Specials/Specials_current.htm

RE: Short block dilemma...
Also my next question is can I use the stock heads (polished and ported of course) running 10.0:1 compression? Also I think I may have to take the heads back to the machine shop to take them to w/61cc head and .015 deck is tht possible?

RE: Short block dilemma...
The 347 burning oil thing is long gone.I cant believe everyone still thinks that that problem was solved years ago.My friend has had a 347 for over 2 years and never burned a single drop of oil.If i was building a motor I would build the 347 or a 351 because the is no replacement for displacment

Go check out dssracing, these are the prices for their stroker rotating assembly, their kits start at $939. If you are going to just run all motor, Iwould recommend the 347 because they are torque monsters, but the specs for the 331 are very similar. I would recommend the 331 if you are going to supercharge or turbo the car.

RE: Short block dilemma...
DSS is the worst place to buy a motor.....347 anyway you go!Why not just get a 351 you have allot more option and its cheaper than building a stroker motor and more reliable. Not that the strokers aren't but there is no machining to the block necessary and a stock 351 block can handle allot more Hp
