DEBATE: 3:73, 3:90, OR 4:10 ???
Consider the following:
2005 Mustang GT
Automatic
Vortech Supercharged
400hp at rear wheels
Current Gear Ratio: 3:31
Should I put in 3:73s, 3;90s, or 4:10s.
Keep in mind I have to drive it on the highway, but not often.

RE: DEBATE: 3:73, 3:90, OR 4:10 ???
It all comes down to what you want your car to do for you.
Is it a 1/4 mile track car? In that case get 4:10, or if your engine revs high go even lower than that.
Is it a 60/40 highway/city? In that case get 3:73.
Is it a 80/20 highway/city, like a state trooper's stang? In that case get 3:55.
3:90 looks to me like a compromise between highway and the strip. Keep in mind that most race cars use 3:73, 3:55 or higher gears. For example cup cars are known to use 3:08 gears. Drag cars always use lower gears, the lower the better, as long as top speed requirement is met, sometimes they switch to a higher gear if traction becomes a problem. A way to decide is to realize what top speed you want, and what RPM you want at specific speed. Use these calculators: http://www.supermotors.org/vehicles/...tors/index.php
As for me, I have 3:27, and it's pretty good. I won't be going lower than 3.73 I think. Things I do with my car include city around 40 or 50, highway around 80 or 90, auto X, and road racing. Note that for auto X, 4:10 or lower gears are better, since the top speed reached in a small parking lot are usually under 80 mph.
