Tranny's hold up to pretty much anything, Just depends how you run them. We all know if you got the power use it! This restricts tranny life. I had a 6-speed in my 91 w/347 stroker trick flow heads, and Paxton S/C 12psi and ran high 11.00's on street tires. CENTERFORCE DUAL FRICTION. AWESOME!! So smooth. I re-calibrated the transmission with different gears and worked with the rear to achieve a top speed of 145mph in sixth gear. This was plenty of top speed and it gave me the flexiblity to use sixth gear on the highway @65mph and still have enough nut to pass a car without downshifting. I seriously reccomend having stuff like this done by proffessionals, because it took me a while to put the set-up together. 3 tries to be specific. Either 2nd was too close to 3rd or 5th was to far from 6, then 1st was too freakin low to even bother, I could have towed a house with first. Althoug it was fun when I put on slicks, I was poppin 3 foot wheelies with 1/2 throttle. But it worked it the end. By the way I ran 10.06@123mph in 4th gear never let off the gas since may car could handle 8,000 rpm power maxed at 7100rpm

I have a t-56 in my 91 Gt. It came with 3:55 gears and i swapped them for 4:10's and that trans and gear combo rocks! I still have plenty of top end and major power through 4th gear. Every shift the car is in the powerband. Only problem is at the track i run nitrous and i cant hook even with mickey et's through the 8th mile.

i believe a t56 has closer ratio's, but yes my 6th gear is pretty useless to me considering the highest speed limit around me is 50mph :-/ i need to be going atlest 60 but i like to hold off to 65-70mph anyways, cant beat it if im traveling tho, it sits around 2100-2200rpm @ 80mph and my mpg's are between 26-28 in 6th at those speeds. i drive a camaro btw w/ 3.73's
but if you've got a t56 and ever need work done i highly suggest these guys www.t56rebuilds.com first i looked around locally for a good tranny shop, some didnt want to touch it at all and just wanted me to drop $3200 for a new tranny.. other shops told me incorrect stuff like i dont have a reverse synchro lol so i took it out myself and got it rebuilt and built up for $1600(reverse, 1-2, 3-4 & 5-6 sliders, billit keys, steel 3-4 fork, bronze 1-2 &3-4 fork pads, carbon fiber synchro rings, plus i needed new reverse, 2nd & 6th gears other than that it would of been $1200 all together)
