Default Brakes problem

I took my brakes off to change the pads then i ended up havin to go to work half way thru and had the calipers jus sittin on a box under my axles and my idiotic friend pressed on the brakes i think so now the pads are to close together and it wont go on the rotor, how do i make it so that theyll go back to the correct width?

YOu can push the piston in with either a C-clamp or a piston compression tool.

^^^^ And it works best if you have the cap off or loose on the Master cylinder when pushing the piston back in. Otherwise you will get to a point where you build too much pressure and the piston will no longer push in.

Im kinda scared that your doing brakes and dont know how to push the caliper back in but anyways either way you would have to push them in even if your buddy didnt push them cause with the new pads they are so much thicker they wouldnt fit over the rotor anyways. The pistons can actually be pushed all the way out sometimes when they are pressed not on the rotor so i hope they didnt fall out cause that can be a real pain in the ***

Neither had I, until I ruined a c-clamp, then read the repair manual. You can buy a tool that fits into the notches around the edge of the piston, but the tool fits loose and is a pain to hold with a wrench. Better to just use a pair of channel-locks to twist the piston down into the caliper.
