$20k to spend...what to get?

There are a lot of nice Mustang options in that price range.
The '03-'04 Cobra are very nice of course.
If you do like the newer Mustangs over the older Mustangs you can get a few nice s197 GT for around 12-15k depending on mileage. The interior is nicer than the NE's but its not as powerful, so its really about what you want.
You might could even get a '10 GT for that, but you are pretty much just paying for the new body style with the same 4.6L that is in the '05-'09 GTs. The interior is much nicer than the '05-'09s though.

Terminator is a nice option but can be difficult finding one with few mods. Also, if you got that route, just keep in mind that because its stock, doesnt always mean it was stock. Also, get ready to pay for insurance on it as it will be more than a GT.
For the GT, I had an 08 and I loved it. Had the 5 speed manual, threw on a CAI+Tune with an exhaust and it was a blast. wouldve kept it too if I didnt want the new 5.0.
From looking at used car prices, it seems alot of dealers are asking way too much for used GT's (maybe thats just in the PHX area) so take your time and be patient.
It seems like you arent in any hurry and NEED a car. Once you make up your mind, never settle.
Either way, you need to go out and test drive them. Obviously, the newer cars handle differently and feel different than other models. Figure out what you like the best and go from there. Either way, Mustangs are pretty cheap to mod....
