Question Alternator issue - v6 2006

Hi,

I have a v6 2006 Mustang , I added halo headlights to it 3 months ago and everything was working fine , yesterday i added new grille with foglights,
the foglights having also halo light i connect the halo light from the fog lights with the halo lights from the headlights ( and both are connected to the bumper lights) i didn't connect the main foglight (only the halo lights) , so i was driving and suddenly all my dashboard lights turned off even the shakar radio lights turned off, So i decided to turn off the car then turn it on and it didn't turned on so i call a friend (thought it was the battery) and he came to me to charge my car from his car with the battery charging cable , so i turned on my car and (fire came out from the alternator) so i left it in a parking area, my question (is that bcoz of the halo lights of the fog lights?) or it just had to end ? and can i replace my v6 alternator with a v8 alternator ? and i don't think the halo lights did that coz normally halo lights don't take much power right ?

I don't know the circuit diagram for your ride, but you probably overloaded the system and/or shorted something out and fried your alternator. I don't know if the v8 alternator will fit or if it has enough juice to work on your ride. Good luck...
