Default problem starting

I have a 2005 Mustang GT and it didn't start this morning I put the key in the ignition no dash lights come on. I try to start it and it doesn't but then the dash lights start flashing rapidly. Windshield wipers and windows don't work either. Last time I had a battery problem the whole thing was dead no lights no flashing or anything and that was two years ago. If this is a battery problem again what is causing my batteries to run down so fast? Any help is appreciated.
