Ticking sound on 07 GT s/c
Ok so I just picked up a 2007 GT with a paxton NOVI 2200SL supercharger. 83k miles on the car. I got the car for $5k under NADA (not including s/c cost) and we are weary that there may be a problem, which is no big deal because it's still a good buy. Either they wanted to get rid of it and make a couple grand quick (people test driving wears on the car!) OR they knew it had some problem, got it for $10k, sell it for $14k.
Fortunately, very high integrity salesman at a chevy dealership, who called me back today to make sure everythings ok. Salesman are typically dont ask, dont tell. Problem? What problem. We are thinking about picking up the 2 year warranty for the motor which is about 2 grand.
Unfortunately we don't know if the motor is built up or stock, we think it has had work done to it because of how gnarly it sounds. Sounds bigger than it is. Also, it is very difficult to hear any abnormal sounds in the motor because the exhaust is cherrybombed, dumping onto the ground right behind/below the front seats. No mufflers.
It has not gotten any louder, I am staying below 4000 rpms until I see whether the noise changes at all. When at idle, I stick my head near the motor, and I can hear a very subtle "tick...tick...tick" and happens at about 1-1.5 seconds. It's at fairly slow intervals.
My question is, does this sound normal for a superchaged 4.6L? Should I not be hearing this sound? It could be the s/c belt or a drive belt. Not sure yet.
Maybe go to a shop and have the boost turned down to 7 or 8 psi if its set at 10 may be wise.... i'll be fine with ~400whp for now, haha
Note: it's not a tick, like a loose lifter would sound like. More like a slipping kind of sound mixed with a tick, like a belt. Like two pieces of paper rubbing together really quickly.
Thanks for reading
