Default painting valve covers

My covers were a mess, so i stripped them to metal and sanded.then,I may have made a mistake, I put a coat of primer on?? Was that stupid?I used the high temp primer stuff, even though probably unnecessary(the high temp part, not the primer part).
So let's say primer was not dumb.do I need to put some heat on them cure the primer so it doesn't chip if it's tapped ever so slightly? Or do I put the top coats on first and then heat them?
If curing is required I want to do it before putting them on the car rather than using engine heat because I dont want them to chip during install.
Thanks for any input

i put this in detailing as well, but responses are few and far between in that area, so....

thanks again
