Default Gear lever stuck in park

Started my 99 GT as usual. No problems starting but could not move the gear lever from park. Tried pumping the brake but still stuck. Also tried to disconnect the battery for some hours but still stuck in P.
Any tips or tricks please?

Were you parked on a hill?

Try shifting gears with the engine off...

^^perfect reason to use parking brake!^^

If you did park on a hill, it puts a load on your transmission if you didn't use your hill brake. Therefore you are going to have to move the car forward, or backward depending on if you parked uphill or downhill, to be able to disengage your brake. I did this once and it was the only way I could get it out of gear.

If you didn't park on a hill, maybe you snapped a band or something? I don't know much about auto trannies.

Do your brake lights work?

Try turning the key one click short of on. See if you can shift out of park now.

Check the brake sensor wire on the top of the brake pedal and see if it is broke. On my 01 Auto the wire broke and did the same thing. I was able to fix it myself

The car is parked on a flat space. The brake lights work. Have not yet checked the sensor wire. Seems to be some wiring connected to the break pedal. Can you please detail what to look for?
