Default Need help identifying part. Pics included.

Hi. My transmission is leaking from a ruptured metal seal of some kind. Seems like a simple enough fix if I can just identify the part. I've asked a few people and have shown them pics but they don't know what it is.

in the pic you'll see two circles near the front of the transmission. The one further back is leakingm. There's a removable metal ring that has failed and is leaking fluid at a petty substantial rate. This isn't my actual transmission. Just a pic I found. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Don't know about editing, but can help you with the leak. Need more info: what transmission? What make year and model car, which engine? The leak appears to be from one of the servo covers, behind which is a piston which applies a clutch band. The covers are normally sealed by an O-ring, the cover being held in place by a snap ring. But need more info.

Those are the servo covers, they control the bands. There is the intermediate band,
and overdrive band. The forward one is the O/D band, the one behind that is the
intermediate band. The caps are held on with a snap-ring.

Can you kinda tell which transmission that is? Is the fill tube fitting an add on, maybe? Definitely not like 5R55* series, and doesn't look like C4 since that has only one servo on the RH side......C6 has only one band.......FMX and all old iron Cruise-O-Matics had servos accessible only inside the case. imp

Under the servo covers are the actual servos. The servos have rubber hats/rings on them that keep the pressure and fluid inside the transmission. If the caps are worn, you will get leaks from the servo covers and possible shifting issues.

Depending on the year of your Mustang, if you have a 5r55s and you're going to go through the process of replacing them, you may want to look into replacement servos that also remedy the servo bore ware issue on these transmissions

Well, that's what he gets for posting in GENERAL tech #1, and #2, not even telling us what it is,
year, and so on. So, we guess, as usual. The spacing and size of the servos match the 5R55,
so...


Looks like a 5R55 to me...

I believe you are right. The deep pan is a give-away, the add-on "gizzie" was not factory. I've been driving a 5R55S for 9 years now.
