Default rear end swap.

Hello. My rear end is going out in my 00 v6. Ive been researching and from what i can figure is that a 00 gt rear will bolt right in. Now i havent been able to find out if my rotors, calipers, springs n such will be able to tranfer to a gt rear end. Will they? Also i was wondering what a used gt rear cost is around? I found some for $650 at lkq but seems like alot? Also im looking to replace the tranny soon, will a gt tranny work on my v6? Im going to have the motor rebuilt to handle forced induction and want everything to hold up.

V6 uses a T5 transmission. Just have it done the same time you build the motor.

The 99-04 GT rear end bolts up just fine. $650 is a rip off. Watch Craigslist or search junkyards. I'd never pay more than $250, maybe $300 if it's in perfect shape with a nice gear installed. You're V6 brakes are the same as the GT in the back.

Thanks, i was thinking 650 is a bit much even with 6month warranty. Good to know everything will fit. The tranny is not shifting right and i gotta get that fixed before i do the motor which might have to wait till next year, wont be able to afford both this year.

Thanks again for the reply

I called a few salvage yards, the ones that had 8.8 in stock where asking 500-650. Found a 7.5 for 200 but sounds like i gotta pull it out myself.

I was toping off mine cause its been leeking, found a glob of metalic goop on the magnetic plug.

You don't even want a 7.5" rear axle, they are very weak......
Another idea would be to look on Craigslist for one.

Cant be to weak, its lasted 190,000 miles and some pretty rough driving.

What about a transmission, is there a way to beef up my automatic to handle say an extra 100+ hp?
