08 GT - Replacement Battery? UPDATE: Optima Installed with Pic
So it's about that time to replace the stock battery - figured I might as well splurge and upgrade to one that Stang owners are fond of.
For a long time, I've always known or heard that Optima Red Tops to be the most popular; but I also have read that fitment issues seem to be commonplace and the RedTops just dont fit well. I don't mind going into a local auto shop and just buying a standard one - but was hoping that maybe someone on here can recommend a good battery that I'll be happy with? Or am I thinking about it too much and just go get whatever...

Redtops are awesome! We had 8 of them cranking our monster 100k container forklift in Korea. Turned over that huge engine like a champ, sub-zero temps tended to discharge them a bit. But a quick jump and they were like a BOSS. Air Force uses them in almost all flightline support equipment..
I have yellow top in my car due to stereo equipment...D35 is the size I got. It's a bit smaller than stock but nothing a few pieces of L-bracket and screws in the battery tray didn't fix. It clears the hood and that's all I was concerned about...didn't want an exploding battery from arcing to the underside of the hood. Been discharged completely through three deployments...still holds a charge like it was brand new.

Optima's aren't bad. I just put an Autocraft Gold 96R-3 battery in mine. 3 year replacement and 5 year prorated warranty I think they run about $115 at advance. I only paid $60 for it since I work there and was able to get a real nice hookup

Installed Optima Red Top Battery on a 08 GT Mustang
Has plenty of room and the stock tie down is good for now. No clearance issues with a stock hood either. Happy as can be! Thank you AmericanMuscle.com

I just go for the Autozone Duralast gold battery. About the same cost and you can easily exchange it at any Auto Zone when it dies. You'll find that batteries in AZ last about 2-3 years.... Duralast Gold has a 3 year free replacement, red tops are 2 years.
What are you going to do when your battery dies? Wait for a mail-order replacement? No thanks. Not baggin on your choice but that's why I chose a local supplier.
I've been through three on my car. Two OEM and one Autozone in 5 years. I'm on my fourth battery right now.
Also, I'm curious about your comment "about that time" was it dying or you felt like replacing it?

Red Tops are three years
felt like replacing
that's why I went with a red top - too many Stang owners swear by them

I will always use an Interstate Megatron Plus battery.
There is only a few battery manufacturers in the world, same for antifreeze, and other parts. Most of the time they just get a modified look and rebranded to something else.
I've never used an Optima, and I am sure they are good batteries, but for myself I have never had an Interstate fail me (the one in my 99 F150 is 7 years old and strong) and if it would i can get it replaced at any decent+ shop.
