Single exhaust on a 2001 mustang
I want my stock exhaust on my 2001 v6 to sound a little louder.I was thinking of keeping it a single exhaust and just replace the muffler with a flowmaster 50 or 40 if that doesn't invole to much work.Any ideas, Im not sure I want to get into changing to a dual exhaust I don't need it real loud just a little louder

Your going to get much better performance with a dual. But I understand your situation. I actually put on a flow master supper 44 onto the single exhaust of my 2000. It wasn't bad nor to loud. It is a good option I recommend it if you don't want to spend to much money I paid about 100 for muffler and install. But it eventually got tired and went for the duals but it's your car always remember that!

I didn't install it myself but all that really has to be done is just cut out the old one and weld in a new one. I'm not sure if the 2001 had a dif exhaust than mine but it shouldn't. I bought a 2.5" offset offset muffler and there seemed to be no problems from my installer.

Im not sure the exact number of hp you will gain but my guess in the dark would be around 10 hp because your losing so much back pressure and the exhaust will flow better. That low hp you probably will not notice it, i didnt at least, but you might gain 1 or 2 mpg and engine will run a little better and smoother. Putting just one muffler in place of the stock will help a bit but this is one of the if not the best things you can do performance wise for the 3.8 engine.

when I had my 2000 v6 mustang I switched headers (98 style headers) and went a full dual exhaust system. If your going to do it dont half *** it because you'll regret it in the long run. The duals out the back also look a helluva lot better.

I wouldn't look at dual exhaust as a power gain mod. I had a 2000 V6 and went to a full dual exhaust. Sounded way better but I wouldn't bank on any extra power.
Also, If you're going straight pipe out the back, do it right and get a GT bumper. Don't have the dual exhaust (or single exhaust) sticking out from UNDER the bumper. That is just rice.
When I went dual I got the Pypes dual system with Turn down tips. So I didn't have to mod the bumper or upgrade to a GT one.
