My wife just got a brand new 14 GT and im wondering how wide of a tire can you put on the front wheels without having any issues? Also should I stick with the 19s or go up to 20s?
I've always liked 19" wheels on the 11+ S197 Mustangs. I think they fill the wheel well perfectly, once the car is lowered an inch or so. Plus they're just a hair more comfortable to ride in than 20's.
You can run a fairly wide tire in the front of these S197's. How wide would you like to go? With the correct rim, a 275 tire can fit with no sweat. Even on a lowered ride height!
I was thinking 275 or 285 all the way around on 19s. I have 285s on my 06 Roush with no problem so i was hoping the 2014 would be ok with that too.
With the correct rim, you'll have no problem fitting a 285 tire on these cars. I've seen this done plenty of times, especially 11+ GT with Forgestars. Just make sure the wheel have the correct offset and back spacing. You should be good to go with a square setup!

285 is the width of the tire in mm (millimeters), the second number is a percentage of the width that equals height of the sidewall. The last number is the size rim the tire is fitted for.
285/35/19
^^^ This tire is 285mm wide. The side wall height is 35% of 285mm = 99.75mm. 99.75mm = 3.927inches. 3.927" x 2 = 7.854" overall combined sidewall. 7.854" + 19"rim = 26.854" tall tire height
Since all tire manufacturers found these numbers to the nearest 5, the end measurement can always vary slightly. It's best to check with the tire manufacturer directly for exact measurements for particular tire models.
Thanks for all the help guys. I thought I would be ok with that tire but i just wanted to make sure.
No sweat buddy! Are there any wheels you're looking at in particular? If you post up a few pics of your ride, I'd be happy to suggest a few styles. Plus, I'd like to see what we're working with!
