Default 4.10 gears for 2006 Roush

Well I got some bad news today. I had a noise in the rear end and it seems I need a rebuild. So now is the time to change gears I think. My question is do I get 4.10's? I drive a lot of highway miles and reach cruising speeds of 90 mph. Is the 410 a good gear for me? Or because of my high speed on the highway is a 3.73 better? I still want good pull out of the hole.

Depends on what you want. I like my 3.55s for the highway. Personally, I wouldn't go steeper than 3.73 gearing.

If you plan to be driving 90 frequently, then 4.10s might be a bit much, maybe 3.73s would be better. I'd suggest 4.10s for people doing less highway miles or at speeds more like 70, but I think your revs might be a bit high cruising at 90.

FWIW I love my 4.10s. Might have a slight traction problem...

If you don't care what gas costs go for it. I drive mine hard all the time.

I would suggest 3.73 for manual and 4.10 for auto

I'm running 3.73's and frequent the highway daily, usually cruising at 70+ when traffic allows.

As of late I have been doing a lot of highway miles myself. I have 3.55's, and since yours is a 2006 I believe it still had the 3.55's standard too. It is a great gear imho, and the best all-rounder. They are still ok with the ffrp cams, and they provide decent pull.

With 4.10's I would run a sticky tire. 3.55's on a stock car still chirps into 2nd and 3rd and will spin off the line like the best of em on the stock pirrelli's. I posted this clip not too long ago in the video section, but in case you didn't see it (and to save you some browsing time) here it is:

That time in the video is about a second slow from what a stock mustang should do. But with spinning off the line, traction control on (that worked like it should... aka pretty much not at all) a slight incline and 7 years of fun this is to be expected. I might revisit that spot in the future to try and get a better run in, but it still won't be perfect due to the slight incline.

The thing I love about the 3.55's? 3rd gets you to a 100 near redline, and it still pulls nicely in 4th. 4th nearly hits 140 indicated, but is no where near as fun as 0-100. 5th is pretty much overdrive, no real pull anymore. It still gets to the 145 limiter though.

At 90 I'm pulling about 3200 rpm. And if you are worried about top end, mine will still do at least 165.

4.10's are awesome. And if you already have 3.55, 3.73 won't big a big enough jump for you to feel difference. 4.10's can annoy me sometimes when i'm driving on the highway because I have a loud exhaust and I cruise at high speeds too. But at the end of the day I'm glad a changed from 3.55 to 4.10
