Bryant3092, I have about the same year mustang as you do (2002) V6 mustang and I often wondered the same thing when I bought the car.. The obvious best way to make it louder and sound better but also the most expensive route is to get headers, long or short is your preference because each will effect the tone that you hear. Next you can either keep your stock y pipe, use an x-pipe or an H-pipe( my personal preference). The stock y gets you your single exhaust, the x-pipe give you duals and a raspier, crackling sound and the H-pipe will gi-ve you duals with a lower, richer sound (closest to a V8 you will get with a V6). Like what was mentioned earlier Americanmuscle has a lot of great starter kits, but can be pretty pricey. If you want a cheap mod to give you very little tone difference, buy the SR Performance cold air intake! At idle it lowers the tone but other than that, there isnt much change. I would suggest you look around on Youtube at different set-ups, there is a lot of routes you could go!

Oh I'm all for people doing what they want with their money. I'm just trying to give a little helpful advice to a first time owner. Loud just attracts unwanted attention. Young drivers get enough grief from the police without drawing attention to your self. I'm 47 so I've learned my lessons the hard way. Loud is not the way to go.
