Default Warm A/C in my 2008 Mustang GT

Hey guys,

I live in South Texas and my A/C in the past few weeks has not been keeping me cool. It's getting way too hot and something has to give.

It blows cooler than ambient temperature, but not by much.

I have run my car with the A/C blowing and can verify that the Compressor clutch engages and the compressor spins.

I bought a "Freon" Recharge kit w/ a "low side" pressure guage. I checked the "freon" and the pressure builds up to 57psi while it cycles. This is slightly higher than the recommended 50-55psi for my ambient temperature (90F-95F).

I decided to not use the recharge kit bc I had adequate pressure.

Question: What do I check next? I have seen several other posts stating I need to check the high pressure (I assume I need to buy another guage?). Can you all tell me what I am looking for now, and what issues are related to which symptons (ie high pressure means this, low pressure means that etc).

those recharge kit gauges only give you a small part of the picture...What's your high side pressure? what's the pressure differential between the high/low when the system cycles on/off?

You can have a totally normal low side reading and still have a system that is not working 100%

You need to either take it to a shop for a $60 diagnostic or buy a set of manifold gauges ($60-100) and learn how to use/read them.

I bought a set and have saved a couple grand doing my own A/C work on our vehicles.

FWIW, you can put a can of freon in it to see what happens. Just use the recharge kit you have. Make sure you have some leak stop too. I've done this with dozens of different vehicles, and about 90% of the time! the a/c has worked flawlessly for years.

But most people will tell you to take it to a shop...and that's technically probably the right way to fix it. But if you don't want to fool with that, give it a go.
