Question Whining Noise......

Hey guys,

Just got my 2006 with about 96K on her. She runs great but I am hearing a whining sound from the rear....Not good I am thinking. Now I was rearended just a few weeks ago but no real damage just a few hols in the bumper. Could one have anything to do with the other?

The whining gets loud around 40 MPH and it sounds like bearings. I have yet to check the fluid in the diff but wanted to see if this was an issue some of you may know or not? And could a bump in the rear do this? I knwo anything is possable but I do not have a lot of experiance with this model yet. Any help would be appreciated!

You said you got rear-ended, which the impact could have jarred something loose. I would check the easiest stuff first, rear brakes, tires, surrounding things for rubbing or breakage.

Next I would check the rear diff for gears winding up, 100k miles could have bad/low fluid, metal shavings.

Usually wheel bearings would make more of a grinding sound, at least when mine went bad on my nissan they did.

Trying to diagnose a whinning, or any sound related problem in a forum is tough. But a whack to the rear of your car definitely would cause problems. You may have to take this one to a good mechanic and have him poke around to see if he can narrow it down. Otherwise your just gonna start throwing parts at it.

I'd contact the insurance company also, if you used that for the fix. But it might be to late for that.

Good advice, Think I will check the fluid and look for anything out of place but take it to the shop to see if the bump caused it. I lll do this before I tear into it just in case I luck out! Thanks
