Default 94 Mustang 3.8 cooling issue

New to me, 94 mustang 3.8. I drive 17 miles to work, mostly hwy. It will stay cool 95% of the drive, then gauge goes to hot then mellows back to half way. I went to change termostat but there wasan't one there. I put in a 160 but issue still happening. Today i just started and waited and watched. Temp went to 3/4 way and still fan not coming on, also felt hose and was soft and cool, no jokes please...lol suggestions? was thinking about running toggle to power fan on/off.

thanks for any and all suggestions

Welcome to the forum.

If your hoses are cool, that means either your pump is bad, or you have a air pocket in the system. Something is not allowing the coolant to circulate.
