supercharger or turbocharger on a 87 mustang 5.0
#2
Most 80's Mustang guys went with the Vortech Super Chargers and really added much needed power.
They come as Kit's you get Injectors , pump , Supercharger , Injectors , Aircleaner assembly.
I'm not sure how they fair today but back then they where the go to kit.
Turbo Chargers are just as awesome but do add even more expense to the mix as you need or should have a Intercooler. Your Radiator and transmission cooling system will need to be modified. This is fine if your up to the task.
Once you start adding serious power like this , you need to address the following
U joints , your stock one might be fine but I'd replace them with higher quality stronger units
Drive shaft loop , this is for safety and if you go to the track and run better then 12.50's which with the Supercharger you'll be in this area , its required.
Transmission rebuild , with all the added power it would be a really good idea to get a full rebuild with better clutch packs and modified valve body if Auto and a new Clutch and rebuild on a Manual.
Upgraded exhaust system, Flowmaster provides many options for Mustangs , research the proper upgrade for your car.
Your going to need wider tires to handle the extra power. For the street you'll need a much better tire and for the track a 26x10 Slick would be great place to start.
I would also consider upgrading your brakes to stop all the madness that you just put underneath the hood.
This is fun and if you plan correctly , you can really make a monster out of the 87 model. It's a 14.8 second car stock and a 12 second care mid to high with a Supercharger and all the other bolt on's around it.

Don't forget axles, the stock 28 spline are a weak link.
And I think dmantis is being a little conservative in the 1/4 times, as my Sig shows what only 300hp NA at the wheels can do in a Fox.
Check out On3 Performance, their turbo kits have a good rep. But as was said above, more power also means modding the weak links to handle it. $$$ lol. Good luck in your decision.
Oh, and welcome to the forum.
