I think the argument about hids being illegal is invalid there's brand new cars with them (poorly aimed I might add) so they are legal they just have to be a certain color and light output

oh wait... those are being recalled because they were engineered without understanding the consequences of size and placement.

I believe the illegal comments were directed towards the blue lights. Which I do believe are illegal in some states.

HIDs are legal otherwise the dealership would not sell them in a given state.
