anyone ever used their Rear Defroster button as a toggle switch
My 2000 Mustang rear defroster button is not being used and was wondering if I could use it as a toggle switch to use my radar detector when needed.

Yeah, it should be ok. It depends on if the switch is to toggle a relay to turn on the defroster (which means that the switch doesn’t get 12 volts), or if it is directly connected to the defroster (which means it does get 12 volts). Good luck...

I was able to do it last night with ease and then noticed the rear defroster would turn itself off after like 15 mins so I disconnected the blue wire and now it stays on until car is either turned off or switch is pushed.
Thanks man

I don't like using it in the small city I actually live in because it's annoying and I pretty much know where to be careful so I wanted a way to turn it off and on. I was just using the rolling on and off switch but I kept knocking it off the windshield so I figured this was easier.
That's about it, really no good reason lol

Actually, that sounds like a petty good reason to me. Knocking it off the dash would drive me nuts after a few times.
You are brave leaving you top down and the detector mounted while you shop. I always lock my GPS in the console if I'm leaving the top down. What part of Texas are you in?

It's sad that we have to worry about stuff like that these days.
I normally keep a, ah, "defensive object" in the console and lock it when I'm out of the vehicle in public - and I worry about someone forcing it open and then me being liable for their actions.
It's a crazy world we live in.

I can't believe people would rather be locked up then to just work
