Default 2012 GT mustang over heating problems

I have been having trouble since yesterday with my GT not cooling itself down. The fan never actually turns on to cool down the car and yesterday I had to pull over to the side of the because it was smoking from the hood. Anyone have any ideas? I've tried unplugging the fan and hooking it up to a battery to check it out and it still works and I've pulling all the cooling fan fuses out replaced them and the relays for the cooling fan as well.

There should be a temp sensor somewhere that tells the fan to turn on, I would suspect that. I'm sorry I can't be any clearer as I don't have a GT nor do I know were it's located. The one on my VW was screwed into the bottom of the radiator.

Sorry, I have to ask, ...... have you checked the coolant level ?

Welcome to the forum by the way.

check your coolant level for sure, but stop driving it and get it figured out, or a simple repair could turn into an engine replacement

The thermistor for the fan is built into the fan power plug in. verify it is there and has continuity. I don't know what the resistance value it needs to be known good, perhaps someone else can chime in here.

the fan on/off command is controlled by the pcm, and uses the ect (engine coolant temp) and cht(cylinder head temp) to determine when to command on, no thermistor in a fan plug

thanks for the help guys. yes the car was at 100% for coolant when it over heated initially now it's back to 100% but with water until the problem can be sorted out. The fan itself never goes on no matter how hot the car gets. I wanted to check the temp sensor on the engine but all I could find was the ambient temp sensor.

Perhaps I am not naming it correctly or misunderstanding its purpose but, there is a fan module located inside the rad shroud. I had to relocate it when I put my Vortech on my 2012.

It has a caged area with a coil of wire inside it, exposed to the elements.

ok, thats a fan speed controller. it provides the low and high speeds. that could be faulty, the fan, or wiring.
