I have a 2002 3.8L V6. I don't know what the pipe is called coming off of the water pump and into the dome, then way up into the engine somewhere. I highlighted the piece in the photo. Mine is all rusted and crumbling and if we remove the water pump it'll disintegrate. I can't find it on any parts list because I'm not 100% sure what it's called.
Just guessing, looks like an external by-pass circuit for the coolant when the engine is cold and the thermostat hasn't opened yet? It also seems to have (and maybe that's all it's for) a bleeder plug at the top, possibly for bleeding air from the system?
