Hey guys. I am 16, soon to be 17. However, for a long time now i've been wanting a specific type of car. That would be any nice mustang thats 2010-2014 v6. One problem...my mom is on board but my dad is not. In this situation I would completly be able to pay for the car with financing on my own, and insurance, aswell as gas. Yesterday I managed to get my dad to come to the dealership with me, where he rode in a 2016 ford mustang v6 with me driving. I didn't do much on the ride I just showed him the power in it a few times so he could know just what was under that hood. But...I don't want a brand new one. My favorite body style is 2010-2014. Today I got my mom to ride and drive a new 2010 ford mustang v6 with 118k miles on it. It was marked at 9800 OBO. Im sure we could get it a little cheaper. However, the problem is my dad needs to be on board, as my mom is cool with it. Do you guys have any advice for me? Currently I have a 1996 Toyota Tacoma (4 cylinder 2.7L) with 216k miles on it. It has been having some trouble latley though, and I just want somthing a little better. If you guys have any advice for me please tell me. As I am going to show your responses to my dad. Happy to see another Arkansan on here. You aren't going to want to show most of the replies you get on this thread to your dad. Most are going to say save your money and pay cash coupled with you're 16 and your dad is the boss and you should respect him.

I'm of the opinion that no one on this internet site knows your dad or how to best approach him. You've known him the longest are really are in the best position to know how to talk to him.

The one suggestion I have is if he's worried about the power have him setup the myford key to restrict speed on your key. Most newer fords have it.

Welcome to the forum first off, but as stated above, your not going to like the most of the responses your going to get in this thread. No harm in trying though.......

But just to be clear, save your money, buy a car you can afford, along with the insurance and all related costs. This would help to convince your Dad that you ARE a responsible teenager.

As a father of 4, that would go a long way with me anyway........then I'd consider a co-signed loan.

No such thing as a 2011+ 4.0. starting in 2011 the engine is a 3.7. 2010 was the last year of the 4.0.

I'm the same age as you dude, and I'm going to pass some advice on that was given to me, as a highschooler especially, don't buy what you can't afford to buy outright, if you can't buy it in cash don't buy it at all, there are other nice rides out there, and there will always be a Mustang waiting for you, but at our age it's important to be financially wise and able to control ourselves/make good financial desicions in life. - Mig

If you bought that car all your money would be going into the vehicle. Car payment, insurance, gas, upkeep of the vehicle.

I basically did the same thing your doing but with Z28. I wound up selling the car for a slight profit because it was taking all my money and had nothing for anything else.

One time, a long time ago, she tricked him into marrying her. Getting his approval for the car you desire should be well within her powers.
