Default How can I test to see which part is messed up?

A couple months back I was fiddling with some speaker wires and long story short, something happened (possibly a shortage) and I haven't had a radio since then. Basically the faceplate or the front part of the radio has power and all but no sound comes out of the speakers. I did take it to Ford to get it diagnosed but they kind of screwed me over and told me nothing I didn't already know. I do have a couple of Line Output Converters spliced into the wiring harness. So they told me they couldn't diagnose it because of that. They could have taken the wires off the wiring harness but instead they didn't and charged me 100+ fee. Ford did tell me it was a wiring harness issue then changed there story to they didn't know unless I brought it to them again. So I work at a dealership and I asked one of the techs what he thought and he said he doesn't think it would be a wiring harness issue. He thinks it would be more likely the front face plate of the radio or the radio part behind that where the wiring harness plugs in to. So my question is, is there a way to test which part of the radio is the problem? Or does the whole radio need to be replaced?

Seeing as you have power at the radio, just no power going to the speakers, I'd assume it's an internal radio issue. BUT, I'm not familiar with the newer Mustangs so take that for what it's worth.....

Good luck

I don't think I'd be too hard on the dealership for not being able to diagnose a "custom" wiring job. Once you start varying from factory wiring setups the sky is the limit on possible problems especially if it was done shoddily. Do you really think the Ford tech wants to start dismantling your wiring setup and take the risk of introducing God knows what kind of sporadic troubles into an already troubled system? I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.

They took an hour, looked at it, drew a blank and charged you a C note for their time.

I suspect a good "auto audio shop" could measure the output to the speakers & likely tell you what was wrong. Your money would be better spent with an audio specialist. See if you can find an audio forum on the web! I get a lot of good, free answers that way! Audio hobbyists might be a good source!
