Default Changing synthetic oil

I drive my 2016 Mustang GT about 1000 miles a year. After I bought the car, i changed the oil after 500 miles with Royal Purple. Since the car sits a lot (I'm a disabled vet), how often should I change it?

Well you can throw the 3000-5000 mile oil change out the window lol.

I'd say change it every other year as I've read oil will break down from contamination and time.

It's just cheap insurance.

And thank you for your service to this country.

Yeah, Every year or two (maybe 12 to 18 months). Oil that has contaminants in it will start to break down just with age and once you drive it, it will have some contaminantes that could turn into varnish and plug oil passages or create deposits on seals that will then harden faster.

Thank you for your service, I have a 2013 F-250, all I've run since the day I picked it up at the Dealership with 38 miles on it was Synthetic. Made them change it for I left so I would no what was in it. I only use it to Haul Hay with the Gooseneck and the MX 4800 Kubota. Has 26000 on the Ticker since Summer of 12. Every 4 month's I change the filter and Top off. I do not change till I put 6000 on the odometer. Hope this helps from a fellow Vet.... If It Fly's It Dies..........ADA..........

Once a year is more than enough.

The important difference of synthetic in "normal" applications is that it "sticks" to the metal better than plain oil, reducing friction on startup mores than conventional oil. It has other advantages, but that is the biggy.

If you only drive every few months, i suspect even synthetic will have dripped off, so it may not make as much difference.

And it sure is nice to see the number of folks on this forum who react to a veteran by thanking him for his service; please let me join in

Thank you for your reply. Other than storing cars when I deployed, I haven't had a car that I've let sit for months on end, then drive it a few miles. I don't want to screw up the engine.

Thank you for your support of our military. I think many of our young men and women feel we sent them to fight a war, and then forgot them.

Take care.
