Default ford FMX??????

so i was takin apart my trans today and noticed somethin a little weird. the picture of the trans provided by B&M and my trans looked nothing alike. there was no servo on the side. so, after a ton of searching through google, i found out that i think i have a ford FMX transmission (thought i had a C4 before). does anyone know anything about these? it said they were very stout, but i think i may try to sell it because of the lack of parts in the aftermarket for it and try to a good solid manual trans.

they are a good stout tranny if i remember right you can buy shift kits and other little things for them. but you might have problems finding converters and such. they had a cast iron center housing with alumium bell and tail shaft. nothing wrong with them in a mild street car they are kinda wierd because they are a rear load tranny Meaning that instead of putting the guts in throught the front like most trannies it all goes in the back. (they can be rebuilt in the car) they typicaly aren't worth a lot because of lack of aftermarket support like you have found unless youneeed a big stall i would run it unitl it dies.

yeah i was wondering too. a few months ago a friend of mine gave me a ratchet shifter and i was installing it and relized it was not a c4 but the FMX. does anybody know who makes a good shift kit for the fmx tranny? i dont really want to replace it, i had it rebuilt a few months ago.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but didn't the FMX start out as a heavy duty tranny in the F250 & F350? My '75 F100 has a C6, but I'm pretty sure they were only available on the heavier trucks. I wasn't even aware they ever made it into Mustangs, or has someone else installed these in your vehicles???

Do your self a favor and sell it and get a C-4 or a stick.I have not done any FMX trans yet but. I have heard nothing good about them and they are very heavy due to the cast iron center case and like said not real easy to get performance parts for.A c-4 will take just about any thing you can throw at it if done right.
