RE: 275/40/17 on 17x8 rims??
not a smart idea man.
widest i would go is 255 at most. but 245 is optimal.
although i wish stock rims were at leat 9". im putting 17x8 on my fox with over 300hp and have to settle for a 245 tire. best bet is to get a sticky 255, will be just as good.
i think 275 would be a safety hazard. you might have it blow off the rim.
most people will tell you same as i did.

optimum for 275 is 10 inch rim. even a 9 inch rim would be pushing it

actually yeah i kind of agree with that.... i had 275 rears on 2 cars... my camaro and thunderbird, both had ROH rims that were 9.5" In the rear..... worked great

you won't gain any contact patch by having 275's on your 8 inch rims because the tire won't be shaped right when it's on the rim unless the measurement of 275 is bull****.
