You're not kidding about the Cameros popping up everywhere. I think they finally hit a sweet spot on the used car charts and now your speed demons are gobbling them up. I've seen a lot more of them showing up here in Florida as well.

The guns have stopped firing for now. No white flag but a definite break from the muscle car civil war.

93-97 LT1 is faster then all GT's up to '04.
98-02 LS1 is faster then all stock Mustang GT's, PERIOD.
We all know it, deal with it.
Don't forget in 1997 some SS cars (not all) were built with LT4 motors that came from the 1996 corvette grandsport. The LT4 had the same power as the early LS1 but had gobs more torque. However I believe you could only get the LT4 with the 6 spd.

The LT4 motor is the revised edition on the LT1. The stock LT1 puts out 300hp. Later Chevy answered with a 330hp LT4 with 340lbs of torque. The LS1 was brought out in 1997 had more power than both. The earliest one put out 340hp with 375lbs of torque. Chevy's revision to the LS1 is the LS6. They always follow the same format and change the cylinder heads to crank out more HP. In 2005 Chevy introduced the LS2 which carries 400hp. The revision to that is the new LS7 which puts out 505hp.

When was a LT1 Camaro rated at 300 hp? Was that the SS?

LT1 camaro, never. LS1 camaro got 310hp. Chevy took put the 300hp LT1 from the corvette and put it in the camaro. I believe they had a detuned 285hp They infamous 1996 impala ss got the most detuned version with a 260hp LT1. All camaro SS pre LS1 only had minor enhancements over the base z28. They have the same engine and same 20 additional HP. Thus for making a 1997 camaro SS put out 305hp. The ram air helps quite a bit.

Wasn't there a limited LT4 z-28 option sometime before the LS1's came out that had about 335hp?

Edit: I thought so '97 w/330hp

Yep a limited edition 35th anniversary SS camaro. The result is 330 hp in the Camaro, the same rating as in the 1996 Corvette. All SS LT4s are six-speed-equipped and come in coupe form only--no convertibles. As powerful as it is, the LS1 still takes the cake when it comes to peak HP.

ive seen a stock 05 gt beat a stock ls1 z28, but for the most part, you are right. the cool thing about the 3V engine is that it responds just as well to mods as an ls1 for the most part, which makes the 4.6 finally competetive with ls1 'maros. not saying either necessarily has more potential, aside from the ls1 having more power stock, but its nice to have have to have FI to win against the occasional SS.

lt1 vs. 3V is in our favor though, generally speaking
which have been discontinued for 5 years
