Default Slight tapping noise at idle?

Does anyone with an 05 or 06 GT notice almost what sounds like a slight tapping noise coming from the engine area? This may be normal, or may be from the 5w20... but it would make me feel better if someone else has this too?

I certainly don't want to scare you but if you are experiencing a tapping or 'clicking' coming from the engine, that could be a very serious issue. I would have the car looked at ASAP. If I could HEAR it, I would know instantly if it was hurt and so will any descent mechanic.

Do you hear this tapping noise when the motor is cold AND warmed up? If so it most likely is just the fuel injectors which are noisy and is normal.

well when its cold... it idles kinda high for the first few minutes.. so its hard to tell from the rumble of the exhaust... But you might be right in saying that its fuel injectors... I had a 98 lincoln towncar with a 4.6 and didn't hear that noise... I know its a lincoln and made to be quiet, just wanted to make sure... I am bringing it to the dealer tomorow morning to get a scratch buffed out, and to get the suspension looked at (knocking in front right) so I will mention it then...

Found something on it...

TSB
06-4-7 TICKING AND/OR KNOCKING NOISE FROM ENGINE - 4.6L/5.4L 3V

LINCOLN: 2005 Navigator

This article supersedes TSB 05-15-8 to update the Service Procedure.

ISSUE:
Some vehicles equipped with a 4.6L 3-valve or 5.4L 3-valve engine may exhibit a ticking and/or knocking noise after reaching normal operating temperature. The noise may be described as "ticks", "taps", "knocks", or "thumps". In some cases the noise may be a normal characteristic of these engines. In other cases the noise may require further investigation. Sorting out and defining the noise as reported by the customer is important to successfully diagnose and/or repair the condition.

ACTION:
Before starting diagnosis, it is critical to determine the specific engine noise the customer is concerned with. The customer should be interviewed to get their detailed perception and description of the noise, and to determine if the noise occurs at idle or above idle speed, and if the engi

THe fuel injectors make a TICKING noise... that I know is normal.. Its an electronic like sound... I head the tapping noise from underneath the car! Its like if the engine is running, and I peak my head under the door I can hear it then, from both sides.. Maybe exhaust? Anyone else have this same sound? It speeds up with revs.. does it less when the engine is cold...

Check dust shield and exhaust, you'd be surprised how much is loose from the factory...

I have the same issue, I was told " not by the Dealer " the the noise is the fuel injectors I have noticed that the noise has decreased once I past the 1000 mile mark. I've gotten used to it, but I have some free time now and will be taking it to the dealer in the morning to ease my mind a little.

I had the exact same issue when I first got the car. Took it in for an oil change at 250 miles. At that visit, dealer said "normal". Definitely didn't seem it to me. A brand new car with a valve tap? It wasn't the fuel injectors - I coud here that separately.

Anyway, after the oil change - gone. I was surprised. I now have 3000 miles - no tap. I read somewhere that a clogged oil filter can reduce oil pressure and produce the tap. I'm thinking since the car was new, there was plenty of metal shavings floating around, possibly clogging the filter. Who knows.

Long and short is - change the oil and see what happens. Worked for me.
