How Dangerous is hitting 6750 rev limiter?
As I've recently been upgraded to a saleen SC and JMD tune that has a revlimiter at about 6800rpm, I have been wondering how dangerous is this to be hitting.
With new power and immediate acceleration, I have had the rev-limiter hit on a few 1-2 and 2-3 upshifts, as well as some 1st gear traction issues...
Every time I see the needle swing that far to the right.. I cringe..[]
Boost is a great thing, but I'm glad I'm only at stock saleen boost levels..
obviously rev-limiteres are there for a reason, and having them raised by your tuner is scary enough.. but how many times do you get to hit it until... Boom..!

There is no number that can tell you how many times you can hit it. Every engine is different in what it can handle. I wouldn't make a habit of it but if you do it occasionally and sparingly I'm sure you will be fine. Just don't make a habit of it. It is easier for me to say that to you because I don't have boost.
Just be smart about it and there wont be any issues.

The idea is that you don't shift at 6800 intentionally, it just comes up crazy quick with FI and 4.10's.. I am just curious as to how bad it is to accidentaly hit this mark...

What happens on your tune when it hits the limiter?
Does it cut fuel completely out?

I don't know for sure.. I know it sounds a bit like a rice rocket at a fast idle when it is bouncing off the limiter.... but I'm not sure that that will help answer anything...
Like today, I hammered 1st, and then shifted to 2nd, but I had so much wheel spin that the tach just sat at 6500 for a good two seconds.. I assumed that I was just spinning my tires as it accelerated, but it was staying steady at 6500 for a bit before I realized it.
I know now to let off the pedel a bit quicker and mabey get some better meats out back..

I would check with your tuner to be sure what's going on. Stock, the limiter pulls fuel, very dangerous on a FI engine. KB leaves it at the same rpm but changes it to completely shut off the fuel. Better, but not good.
Does anyone program the rev limiter to pull spark and not fuel on the stock ignition hardware?
