Yes, because 17 year olds have more experience than anybody... The mileage decrease would depend on the type of driving that you do. If you do all city driving mileage decrease will be minimal, but on the highway it will be worse. I'm considering 3.73s for mine. Your situation sounds like mine: don't race much (if any), but would like to be a little quicker.

you will loose no more then 2 mpg on the highway with 4.10s, my buddies GT with 4.10s still gets better milage then my STOCK V-6
3.73s would be good for a twin screw, roots, or turbo, thats about it, spraying or a centri, i would still go with 4.10s
