have Borla axlebacks that drone alot between 1800-2000 rpm. Can anyone recommend a fix?
Right way = weld in some resonators.
Cheap way = Go to a welding supply store and buy "welding blankets" Wrap them around the muffs and then tie them on tightly with stainles steel wire (Home Depot). It's ghetto, but works like a charm.
you can also wrap the muffler in the soundproofing crap

I know this is a noob question, but what exactly are resonators and what do they do?

get over it you can't really get rid of the drone but just limit it..just crank up the stereo

I also just got my Pypes Violators about 2 weeks ago. Sound is great. I seems to be getting louder the more they break in. I have no drone at all.

[align=left]I installed Pypes Violators 2 weeks ago also. I love the sound, deep throaty, but not to loud. (unless you really get into it) No drone at first, but then one day I had it, not as bad as the Flowmasters, but it still bugs me. Then the next time I drive it, no drone! Really weird, I can't seem to figure why sometimes it drones, and sometimes it doesn't. Weather, temp. etc. don't seem to matter. I checked the pipe clamps, and they were tight. Maybe I'm just nuts! Oh well, I can live with it until I can save up for some Corsa's!

One technique that worked well for me was to completely empty the trunk (no tools, no junk; just leave the spare). A lot of buzz went away right after that. Then I stuffed the trunk with some rigid foam pillow material from an old couch, which did a lot to dampen drone even more. The point is, the trunk is a very large resonating chamber all by itself, and configuring it to minimize buzz and vibrations can do a lot to reduce drone - at least in my case.

Isnt drone just the same sound waves coming out of the seperate tips and meeting in the cabin of the car? If so... one could get two different mufflers... one bassani one borla... or one stock one flowmaster... that would fix it! Why doesn't a company take this into account while designing the exhaust systems? Instead of making a muffler, and then mirroring it to the other side, design two that complement each other to cancel out any reverberations or drone...

No, not quite that simple. Replacing the stock mufflerswith after-market axlebacks having different resonance characteristics changes a lot of things on the car. For one, chambered mufflers vibrate differently than straight through mufflers, which in turn makes the trunk floor, rear quarterpanel and cabin buzz differently as well. Cabin drone is nothing more than your 'stang humming to a different beat. All that metal surrounding the mufflers ismechanical the equivalent of a speaker transducer, and the only music that comes out is a very montonic tune we call DRONE.

Is there less drone with a manual??
Same drone, but with a manual you can shift to a different gear to get out of the Drone RPM range.

Gotta agree. I got SLP loud mouths installed just this week and they have some serious drone, especially in fifth and hovering around 2000 rpms. Small price to pay because as you say the system is sweet as all hell.
