Heads and Cam

Heads and Cam
My friend and I were talking tonight and you know how everyone says that there virtually no way to get 400 hp without supercharging or nos. But if you stroked your 4.6 out to a 5.0 got new heads and cam wouldnt that put you pretty close to 400 hp at the wheels? Im sorry if this has been discussed before but it just got me curious.
And i know it would be a dumb idea because with the money youd put into that youd be able to get well over 400 hp with forced induction. But i was just wondering because i see a lot of people do it with older camaros and stuff like that.

RE: Heads and Cam
You might get close to 400. I only know one guy that has stayed N/A and went the Heads/cam route, and is putting down about 360rwhp with all of the usual bolt ons. Until the prices drop on the aftermarket heads, it's a waste of money.

Thisis the fourth time I post these two links:
For 400 flywheel hprsepower:
http://www.brenspeed.com/tech/compcams.html
For 400 rear wheel horsepower:
http://www.blowbyracing.com/video.html
You see...stock block on both!!
Now add a 5.2L Forged block with 11:1 compression and hit 500hp. I know it costs a lot but pulling those numbers NA is amazing! I wonder what would happen if you add10psi of boostto the mix..

To that mix.... It would completley detonate andblow up ... 10 psi of boost and 11:1 CR are enemies.

RE: Heads and Cam
I only see 335 RWHP that Brent White got with cams
what do you mean 400 RWHP on that link?
Cams dont justify their cost on these 3 valves.
Heads are a big waste too. They are just P&P stock heads not some real aftermarket heads.
1000 for cams
800-1000 for install (if you cant do it)
2200-2500 for heads
800-1000 install
That is over 5000 dollars and that is the same cost as a supercharger or turbo

Honestly... I wouldn't go the NA route if I wanted huge power either.. I mean, face it.. we have a limited displacement and big power means you need to move big air. However, I do understand the sentiment... Some guys just like having NA power. 500 NA HP and 500 HP from Forced induction (and even from nitrous) are all very different cars to drive.

RE: Heads and Cam
nobody will ever get 500 HP on these 4.6 natruarlly aspirated though....... there is not enough cubic inches on these motors to get that power - period.
How come nobody can show those big numbers (380/400)but BBR?
Not one person has posted a NA dyno sheet that high except them.

RE: Heads and Cam
I understand what you guys are saying and realize it would be a huge waste of money if you went that route. I was just wondering if stroking it and doing heads and cam would get you to 400 hp because ive seen so many threads saying its impossible. But obviously if i was going for big power i could get a whipple or something and put over 400 to the ground for a lot less money. Thanks for the good feedback just got curious.

BTW I meant 500 flywheel HP. about 420-430rwhp...
